I replaced the battery in my Discovery 2 and now it cranks hard but will not start. I called a few dealer service centers and they said I have to use my key fob to unlock it after I replace the battery so that the car knows it's not being stolen. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use the key fob to unlock the car because the unlock switch on the chip is missing (attached picture).
so the car hasn't been starting but it cranks hard. I was finally able to activate the unlock function using the broken fob today by just connecting the two solder points with another key, allowing the fob to be used to unlock the car, but this did not work.
P
Tldr: discovery 2 wont start after switching battery due to key fob unlock switch being broken. Was able to find a way to unlock car using fob bur car still only cranks.
I've had the same problem for 2 years on my 1999 D2 V8 Thor - replaced battery, cranks, but no power to fuel pump, now got M&S lights and a 400Ma drain on the system. Going demented trying to fix. it was running like a peach before this happened.
Something else going on here key fob doesn't mean anything on these trucks you can start them with a blank metal key. And battery shouldn't effect anything either. Perhaps a crank position sensor or something like that? Or perhaps check the terminals or if the battery has a charge?

That's not true. If the truck was locked with the fob and is unable to unlock it with the fob, the truck is immobilized and in my experience the sequence in the door lock doesn't work and I had to use a nanocom to get my truck to start again.
lol, do you know the easiest way for me to reset it??
Hold your horses. There is a reason I got the popcorn.
First I am no expert on the immobilizer at all. I do know the internet is FULL of conflicting statements and "facts" about the immobilizer. And I know that the official RAVE manual doesn't clear much up, at least for me.
But, it cranks. If the immobilizer is your problem, then you don't have fuel - It stops the fuel pump and disables the injectors. But you have air and spark, so some starter fluid should make it bark. Before you go down the immobilizer rabbit hole, I would give it a whiff and see if it at least kicks over on it's own.
If it does make noise then I would check all the relays and fuses for the fuel pump. It could be just bad luck that you lost a relay or fuse coincident to changing the battery.
If those check out - door code or track down someone with a nano-com to help you out.
For me when I was immobilized due to fob issues it wouldn't even crank. PO had changed the door code and I didn't know it so I ended up buying a nanocom. While super annoying I was way overdue purchasing one considering we have 2 D2s that are our daily drivers...
