Default Disco Coolant Leak

Hi,

New at this forum. I bought this 95 Discowith 145k with ambition of doing some Saturday morning mechanics. I was told no engine leaks. But I guess I should have checked harder. The vehicle runs great and no electrical problems or issuesbut gas milage is bad(~13 City). But the real issue is the leaking of coolant when the temperature goes down or I leave the vehicle parked on the lot overnight.

The coolant does not start leaking until few hours has passed or it is very cold outside. Also the amount of coolant in question drastically increases if I turn the heat on when I run the vehicle. I ran it without heat a few times and amout of coolant leak is just few drops. And the coolant is leaking from the passenger side of the vehicle and right under where the passenger foot rest is. But the passenger side carpeting is not wet or anything? Dealer told me head gasket. But could it be something else? Help.

RC

Don't guess, go to a shop and have them do a coolant pressure test to confirm exactly where the leak is.

13mpg is actually GOOD for city by the way in these damned tanks.

sounds like a heater core, the bottom panel under glove compartment pulls off without tools and you can pop the plastic trim pieces on the right kick panel off too, get under there with a flashlight and look about. all of your cars computers sit right there, you dont want coolant running about under there! also pop the hood and look at the two feadlines that go to the heater core on the passenger side firewall.
