Default Disco Filters

Was just looking at AB putting together my tune up list. I saw they sell the K&N air filter as well as standard paper filter. Which should I go with? I like K&N but have read they damage the MAF. Is this true of both D1 and D2? Has anyone used the intake kit that AB sells? Looks similar to K&N systems. I am also looking at the K&N oil filters. I have run them in the past and really like them. But I have never run into a choice of long or short filters. Is capacity the only difference and which is recommended? Also plan to change the fuel filter, plugs and wires to do the tune up right. Going with Bosch Fusion plugs and 8mm Magnecor wires.

Stick with the paper air filters. The D1 MAF's aren't as sensitive (as the D2) but cost $500 to replace if it does fail. That's a lot of paper air filters you can buy and one less thing to go wrong/worry with your truck.

Go with the long K&N oil filter.

The wires and plugs sound good.

Rover MAF's are very finicky. Some people here experience MAF failure after installing a K&N air filter while other (myself) are doing fine. I recommend being very gentle with the MAF no matter what air filter you choose.

Cheers,

Pete

The K&N oil filter part number is 3001 if you are shopping for the long version. I use the Mobil 1 filter which is M-301 part number. I throw a Filtermag on there to collect little metal particles floating around in the oil.

Happy Roving,

Pete

A more balanced opinion is always a good thing, right? Besides, running for offices means less time for my Rover, and who would want that?

I can see the headlines: "President runs over Prius in Land Rover".

Land Rovers we can believe in,

I've thought about getting one of these for a while now. Thanks for the reminder.

The FilterMag is a magnet that you wrap around your oil filter, supposedly it makes the metal stick to the side of the filter and thus stay in the filter and not get recirculated into the engine.

Personally I think it is a joke. If the filter that you are using isint doing its job then you need a new oil filter. And if you are getting that many metal shavings in the filter that you need a magnet to trap them then you also need a different motor oil.
Those are just my opinions.
