Default Disco II 2003 stalling

Hello Everyone,
I have an 2003 LR Discovery II ...lately I have been having stalling problems. starts right up but keeps happening...thought it was the hot weather...but the last time it happened I had the green M and the green S lights illuminated as well as the D for Drive and a blinking selector on the shifter...the vehicle was also stuck in 3rd gear...no real power....Had it towed to my mech but just wondering if anyone has had similar problems.....oh btw, the next time I started it...the lights were out and the vehicle appeared normal....what gives? glitch?

Appreciate any ideas or suggestions thanks

Have your battery and alternator checked, and check that the battery cables are properly attached to the battery terminals. The transmission will mess with you if there is not enough electrical power and you get the M+S lights and the limp mode in 3rd gear.

I agree, take it to a local parts store and have the voltage checked, should be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts at 1500 RPM's.

I had the same problem (minus the stalling) and it was my battery.

Smile Disco Stalling problem is fixed

Hello Everyone, Thank you for all the replies. I checked the Batt and the alternator and all were fine. Did some more research and read about a high failure item, that mostly fails intermittently when it gets hot, namely the "Crankshaft Sensor" !! Replaced it for $85 bucks thru Atlantic British. It's spinning better than ever ! This Blog is a fantastic research tool...
Cheers !
