See why I said "I'm not taking any sides in this one" ? I just wanted to reference it so you could read what was said and the whole discussion wouldn't happen again.

Anyone noticed the rear view is poor in a Disco II?

I think it might be better to remove the rear passenger seats at least. My Range Rover Classic has the best vision set up probably because it is set up for hill climbing and descent.

I believe the torx bit to be a size T45.

Turns out to be T50. One more trip to Lowes than I needed, thought I might try and save someone else.

Yes, did mine recently too. Can confirm on the T50.

The whole thing is relatively simple, less than 45 minutes work. But it does help if you have a 2nd person - the seats are easily over 150 pounds!!!

Also noticed a slight performance / handling improvement once the back seats are out and gone. Much lighter and more responsive.

Thanks for this. That is why I want to remove mine. Noticed my discovery drives drastically different with weight in it.. trying to figure out ways to eliminate unnecessary weight for the longer expeditions.

Yeah, no worries. It's been many years since I posted here. I have since sold the car, travelled the world, and moved to another country! How about that!

But the fact remains, you take out AS MUCH dead weight as you can... you will have a great expedition vehicle.

And... the best part... with the back seats removed you can lay down and sleep in the back. No tent necessary, you sleep in the vehicle... convenient as hell.

I noticed a 2 mpg improvement in fuel consumption without back seats. I wonder what else you could strip out to decrease weight??
