good explanation Spike555. Just out of curiosity, any idea why Land Rover didn't use limited slip diffs instead of open diffs in combination with the CDL? I would think Limited Slip might work better than an open diff with the ABS activating power to the stationary wheel.

No, I have no idea. I figure that they know what they are doing.
The DI also has a full floating rear axle where as the DII does not.

I get it.. i had a 86 dodge power wagon, and was under the impression that the front wheels spun faster than the rear. This if course would not be possible with the 3 open diff scenario..

Random.. Yes.. Ive got my head around the 3 open diff concept now.. Thanks

I just confermed this with Urban Panzer, when the 3 amigos are on you will have limited ABS and no traction control.

Just a come back to this post, if the trio is on, you, there is no grey area, you either have ABS or not, there is no limited ABS function. Depending on the combination of ABS codes your ECU might have on will determine if the ETC works, and better then 90% of the time the ETC and Hill Decent are out of operation.
If off road with the trio on, if the ETC is working, you will hear it clicking and see the ETC flashing as it works.

No Rover has ever had a limited slip diff. My feeling is, between the wear factor, the special fluid many of them require and the water contamination that is possible they wisely stayed away from it.
Pretty much the same reason very few jeeps ever had it, nearly all of them had open diffs.

Not correct.

If you have the 3 amigos because of a shuttle valve switch failure, the ABS will still work but the deceleration threshold is increased. this is one way to tell that you do have shuttle valve switch issues rather than wheel speed sensor faults.

The ETC is disabled at all times the 3 little buggers appear

So there are way to many variables on this one, basic rule of thumb applies, if the 3 amigo's are on then you have no ABS, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, nothing.
