Default Disco II fuel issues

I have a 97 se7. I have replaced the fuel pump and filter, but I still can't get it to fire. It will run with starter fluid. It wants to go, but won't stay running. I was driving it, when it shut off on me. I have also replaced the CPS sensor... Anyone have any ideas?

I know it's pretty much the same engine but your truck is a Disco 1. Post this up in the D1 forum.

In the D2 there's a fuel pump relay that can cause your symptoms. "Swap it with the windshield wiper relay next to it" is the D2 advice I give.

Maybe it'll help.

Your injectors are not firing on the D1.
Double check the CPS.

Pull out the ECU and check the ECU for corrosion.

Unplug and plug in all the plugs you can find.

Also if you parked out side Woodrats or squirrels can eat thru only one wire
and kill the truck.

but you were driving it.
Fuel pump may not be turning.
Check the inertia sensor by pressing it in.

Default 99 disco cranks 2nd time, every time!

Mine tries to start but won't catch, then I stop. When I fire up the second time, fires right away. Sounds like a big problem. Is it?

That does sound a lot like a fuel pump not holding pressure (you may have a leak somewhere else in the fuel system causing the pressure leak but you will usually see fuel leaking if that is the case). The first time you are cranking on the engine, it is building up pressure in the fuel system that leaked out. The second time you try and start it, it works because the first set of cranks built up the pressure it needs to start.

You need to do a fuel pressure test or you can try to confirm the bad pump by turning the key to the on position (don't try and start) wait 5-10 seconds then turn the key back to the off position. Then do that again 1-2 more times. On the 3rd or 4th time try and start the truck. If it fires right up then your pump is going bad.

It still fires up on the second crank, but I smell fuel too. What does that tell you?
