Disco II and the peasky Dealer question
#21
Rover and their original Klingon technical staff decided that Earthlings could not handle lubrication PSI readings, so no oil gauge. The analog coolant gauge is too distracting to the Earthlings, so it was " digitized " and a pulse width modulated signal comes from the ECU to the gauge indicator (cold, 50%, extra crispy); but we are a planet with great resources, and the rare elements carried back from exploration must be protected at all costs by an alarm system that does not allow the vehicle to be started if the battery went dead and was jumped off.
Ultra Gauge and other tools that "improve" upon Rover instrumentation are a good thing. Back in the late 50's, an oil pressure gauge was a low cost option on them. Having a sounder go off if SWMBO is at pursuit speed to a pedicure appointment with coolant overheating is a good thing.
