Disco II Virgin Needs HELP
Hello Everybody
I bought a used 2001 Disco II SE7 earlier this fall. We found out that I had an issue with the right cylinder head after we drove it down to central IN from Chicago.
I'm a stubborn SOB and I'm going to learn how to rebuild the thing on my own. There's no way a college student can afford the few grand the repair got quoted at. I buddy of my dads who owns a shop quoted the repair for me, then told me he couldn't find even a used engine for under 5 G's. I personally found several within ten minutes of starting my search.
In a casual conversation with my dad today the guy told him I needed to redo both cylinder heads because if I didn't the other one would go within a few months. Something to do with pressure differences.
Do I really need to redo the other one, or is this guy just tooting his own horn?
Also, by problem, I mean there is a crack in the head

So you need head gaskets, big deal.
Here is what you will need in parts, the rest is just labor.

and these

Just because you have a blown head gasket does not mean you need a new engine.
Yes you must do both sides at the same time.
You can send the heads out to a machine shop to have them checked for cracks and warpage.
If warped they can plane them, if cracked you will need to get some used ones.
