Disco II won't move
Hi - Let me preface this inquiry with the statement that I am not at all mechanically inclined, so please bear with me. I have a 2002 Discovery II with approx. 120k miles on it. The Disco sat for about 5 months. Obviously it wouldn't start after that amount of time. I tried jumping it, but that didn't work, so I replaced the battery (well, my boyfriend did) and it started fine (stays started and idles like normal). It won't; however, move. I put the vehicle in Drive and/or Reverse and it won't budge (parking brake is NOT on). I can feel the gear engage, but nothing happens when I step on the gas. There are no notification lights on the dash - everything seems to appear normal. Hopefully somebody can point out how silly I'm being and give me a very easy fix, but I'm not holding my breath. Thoughts/Suggestions? Whatever advice/help you can offer would be appreciated. I'd like to have some sort of handle on the situation before having to consult the dealer.
Thanks!
Thanks!
wouldn't it be safer if she stayed in the truck, put it in gear and kept her foot on the brake while somebody else looked at the drive shafts? Also, the rear drive shaft can't spin with the E-brake on.
Are there any light on the dashboard? Make sure the transfer case is not in neutral. maybe the sounder is bad and not alarming her that the t-case is in neutral. (I am assuming you are a girl, if not, then sorry)
Your transfer case **** should be down like this one

If it looks like this,

You wont get drive anywhere and you should see this on your dash flashing and annoyingly beeping...

(Ignore my rpm's, i didnt let her idle down before i took this shot.)

It doesn't audibly sound any alert or alarm and I did not see anything on the dash as far as an LED notification, but I will confirm it again just to make sure. I'll also check the t-case and confirm that as well. I should be so lucky to have it be something that simple!
Your assumption is correct.

You would have probably noticed 5 quarts of red ATF oil but if you are feeling adventurous you should check all of your gear box oil levels. It requires getting under the truck and couple tools:
