Default Disco Research

After a few solid hours running around these boards I have learned a lot. I actually did my senior paper on Land Rover's history, I have always been drawn to them. My general question is, do you guys have a Sticky page on any forums on check lists for buying a used Disco?. I have a M3 i am selling to move up north and need a 4x4 vehicle, with space (i.e a Disco II, or Tahoe) nothing huge but can't be small either. Already I have read on tranny sounds, engine flushings, AWD gear problems and the list goes on. I am nothing new to a high maintence car ( see: M3 but I do not want a headache. Is there a Disco yr, style or anything that would be most saught after for long term dependabilty? Even a Rover? Don't be afraid to offer insight on any other type of vehicle. I don't want to spend more than 15k, should be some trail worthy vehicle and annual costs of fuel and maintence is a big factor!

You could visit my web-site at www.eurotekapg.com and click on the tech info pages ---broken down into vehicle systems. There is enough information there to arm yourself with before going and checking out a vehicle for possible purchase.

If you're patient you could find a high mileage 03 for that much.
I was told not to worry about mileage as long as it was maintained.
I bought an 03 w/ 40,000 miles Saturday - It's comforting to have a little bit of warranty left.

Although some people will tell you a D1 is better then a D2, they are not. Much of the D1 was Lucas electronics, anyone having any English car experience will tell you that.
What do you plan on using the truck for, how much is your $$$ limit?

I will be using this to A) drive to work back and forth aprox 35 round trip B) have some mild fun in new england trails, and C) get my ATV to and from Motocross races.... So those aspects lead to having a SUV that is comfy on the inside....rugged on the outter side and able and willing to be a daily without many trips to a garage. Because I woulnd't have that much time or money left over ! lol

Your needs are relatively easy to meet...IF.....you buy a Land Rover with complete records, one with under 100K miles, and one with shocks, springs, brakes, andtires that are not already worn out. It would be a real reliabilityasset if the head gaskets has already been changed out. I trust you are talking about towing your ATV ona light trailer behind the Land Rover. They are not large enough inside to load a vehicle such as that --into. Well.....maybe if you pulled the rear seats out.

remember-- how it was taken care of is EVERYTHING on these vehicles. Even light trail use will strain and break one of these that was not maintained and used as a daily highway cruiser.
