Default Disco sellers in California

Been looking for awhile for a disco I or II. Have seen some from 70scar.com/vw-benz in California and also Revel machines. Anyone have experience with either one?

Nope. Are these online dealers or what? Might be helpful to give some links or context. Most of the time we probably buy of craigslist / marketplace.

Both online. Found the Revel Machines disco listing initially on Craigslist near Hollywood then an instagram link. 70scar.com seems to sell quite a few a well with listings on Autotrader etc under name VW-BENZ. Still wondering if anyone has any experience with either. Thanks

I bought my D2 on Craigslist almost three years ago. Then there were quite some listings (Bay Area). Dealers are not competitive in this price range.

Thanks Discorama. I’ve definitely scoured Craigslist but unfortunately few discos around Arizona. I’ve resorted to searching used car apps in neighboring states as it seems like dealers are now picking them up at auctions for resale.

I would NOT recommend 70scar. I almost bought an 03 from him. He claims his dealer isn’t set up for in-person sales, and that the majority of his business is shipping cars. Yet he posts things for sale local in LA... Anyways I was worried about the 03 I was looking at passing smog because it came from a state that didn’t require smog. Long story short he says yes yes it will pass and he will get it smogged the morning I come, but he wants a deposit before I come. This kinda scared me, but he did say he would give the deposit back. After this then we talk price. I asked one question about the price and then he threw a fit. He sent me videos of him screaming at me saying I was trying to pull stunts to get a lower price. He threw a fit, and I mean a FIT, throwing out insults and threats like nobody’s business. If you look at his website it will list an "average price" for a DII at about $15k, which is very wrong in my opinion as well as every other car value estimation website. If you really want, pm me and I’ll send you the video so you can see for yourself. Probably sounds very dramatic but I would stay away from 70scar at all costs.

Thanks Aaron. Definitely appreciate that information. Unfortunately I’ve had similar but less dramatic interactions with 70scar/vw-benz. Awhile back I asked him why an online listing had different mileage than could be seen on video but never got a reply. Didn’t think much of it. Recently I inquired about a carfax on a different vehicle and got a hint at what you experienced. He flipped out saying he was selling cars not carfax reports (I have the crazy email reply still). I’m glad you corroborated my suspicions before I gave him another chance. Unfortunately these “dealers” appear to be acquiring all the decent discos from auctions for resale at inflated prices. Thanks again.

This is how it looks like, but also I see a lot of people resorting to overlanding since Covid. I regret not buying another '04 with 100k miles, which was offered for $1,000 here locally two years ago. It had the common engine problems, probably HG, but in worst case even with adding a new engine it would have been steal.

Just keep waiting and check neighboring states CL or facebook market place. There aren't many in CO but every so often there is a spurt of cheap ones that become available. I picked up a green 99 with 156k miles for $1k this summer, $600 in parts and a weekend and it runs extremely well. Some of the parts weren't necessary but nice piece of mind.
