Disco Used Price Questiom
Sounds like a solid D2 could be a good investment spending most of its time in the garage.
These vehicles are becoming the cool over landing thing. Yes that’s good, it makes Saturday evening under your D2 in your driveway more valuable... maybe. Internet warriors talk about all these great deals. Good luck with that, although there are some out there.
I have a D2. It’s my favorite car. But it’s a sentimental thing and she will run forever if god wills it. But you must be able to take care of the basics or your local mechanics will rape you.

Before you buy, please take a look at my cost spreadsheet in my signature so you can see what you might be getting into. Granted my situation is somewhat unique. Engine needed to be replaced and I made a lot of mistakes along the way.
that said there are plenty of cheap ones in Florida. Look at Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Good luck!

Just look at the bring a trailer past auctions there’s many low miles(50-80k) selling easily for 15-24k. If I were to do it over again I would buy one with a blown motor for dirt cheap and put a nice dependable one in it
Laughing OUT LOUD at a D2 being an investment.
You will be making the investment is how it works.
I usually tell new owners to expect $1500 to $2000 per year in maintenance averaged over several years. You may not spend that all in one year but eventually you will.
That figure is assuming you don't do all the work yourself.
These are going on 20 year old PREMIUM CLASS vehicles. Even though the price may be relatively cheap now, you still have to maintain them like you would a trophy wife.

Yeah, that statement included the assumption it mostly just sits in a garage. Hard to spend money on a truck you're not using.
Yup, my assumption (stated above) is $250/1000 miles for r&m.
This was super helpful, thanks! Over what time or mileage frame did you spend that?
My mindset is I'm willing to spend $25k over ten years on a twenty year-old luxury SUV with a rare design style. If it's still in great condition (which it should be if I baby it and spend those $$), I'm assuming I can recoup $10k or so at the end. That puts my total net cost at $15k over ten years, or $125 a month. Doesn't seem too nuts.

I started mine in 2019. Just added some major mods recently: new diffs - 4.11 gears and Detroit truetracs which is $3500. Most of the work I did myself with the exception of building the shortblock and finishing the engine install. I’m a complete noob - no mechanical skills so I learned along the way and made lots of mistakes. But it was fun and worth it.
I think a lot of people miss out on that aspect of doing your own wrenching. It’s really rewarding for me to look at something major that I completed on your own and say “I did that.”
