Default Disco won't start

Hey guys, I have a 97 discovery which ran out of gas in my carport, and when I tried to start it after putting two gallons of gas in, nothing but a couple of spurts then nothing. Could the fuel pump be out of prime?

You could have burned out your pump. Does the DI have an inertia switch, if so press it a few times.

Thanks for the info. When I turn the ignition on I can hear the pump whiring for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. If I press the shrader valve on the injector bar a small amount of gas will spurt out and then nothing, even with the ignition left on.

just turn the ignition switch off and on a few times it should prime itself

Default frustrated now

I have only owned this vehicle for about three weeks. It was running rough when I bought it, but never failed to start. Yesterday, I tried it but nothing but a couple of coughs and sputters. Put gas in it because I thought it might be empty, and nothing better happened. I've tried turning the ignition off and on and waiting for the fuel pump to stop, but still no luck. Any ideas? Also, how much pressure should be in the fuel line, and what regulates the amount that is pumped back to the tank. I'm thinking that if the fuel pump is working but nothing is holding the gas from going round and round there is not enough fuel pressure for the injectors.

First things first...
The fuel pump will only run for a few seconds when you turn on the key and do not start the engine, this is true for all fuel injected cars.
If the fuel filter is clogged you will not get enough fuel pressure at the fuel rail to run the engine.
Replace the fuel filter, it is behind the passenger rear wheel, you can buy one at Wal-Mart for $15, it is a standard fuel filter.
You should have 30-35 PSI at the fuel rail, she will run on less but not very well.
Replace the fuel filter before you do anything else, it is a common neglected part.
The fuel pressure regulator could be bad but the top 2 culprits are the fuel filter and the fuel pump.
If it is the pump it is easy to replace, roll up the carpet in the cargo area and BAM!!, there's your fuel pump.
The bad part is that it is one million dollars for a new one, $450-$500 million to be more precise.
You can look into a used one.
