Default DiscoII Headers

Hey all, i was wondering if anyone on here has actually used a pair of Headman headers for their rig? My exhaust is crap (cracked passanger manifold, and cat is ratteling like crazy)... So i was wondering if thoes 180 dollar headman headers woruld work? if so i would get a pair of high flow cats and have a custom 2 x 2.50" to a single 2.5 inch Y-Pipe fabbed up and hopefully buy a magneflow echaust in the future... I may also consider adding a resonator (i fear the exhaust will be TOO loud)...

Otherwise, ill get a stock manifold, magnaflow sells a replacement cat Y-pipe assembly and mangaflow exhaust and risk cracking another manifold and crappd desighn...

Thanks,
Eric Wolf

The problem with headers is the steering linkage on the driver's side. Everyone that has fit them in has had to fab and bend them to make them clear the steering shaft.

I have Magnaflow cats on mine and like them. Going on 3 years now..

If your truck is under 8 years and 80K miles, you can get the cats replaced for free...

Really?!?! compaired to the stock stupid looking stock manifold? I know my old datsun 240z loved its 6-1 header, just thought the rover may have a similar benefit... My truck had about 160k on it, but drives like it had 60k, no oil contamination between oil changed nor oil (no leaks or poofs of smoke). It runs smooth, but it was chuggin a little in the sub-30 degree temperatures under light load at low RPMs, i root caused that to a dirty MAF, so i tossed the tired looking KN filter (previos owner), cleaned the maf and intake tract and VIOLA... Now i have a stock paper filter... But i believe the dirty MAF may have caused the engine to run a bit rich and burned my cats up...

You will have to port the heads and re-do the intake to match the flow in the exhaust. You will also have to change the cam to one from a 4.6 to increase lift. Even with all of the better breathing, you won't see much improvement for all of the work you have done.

D1's can run K&N and the MAFs can be cleaned, if done right. The D2's are done if the MAF gets dirty. Just an FYI. If you cleaned it and it is holding out, you got lucky.. Watch out for lean codes and a 4th gear ratio code. If you get those, your MAF is out.

BAH! i may have to go with the replacement Magnaflow cats and stock passanger manifold... I dont have the ability to torch and properly bend a header... crap... My truck is a 2000 w/ 160k miles, so looks like i need to pony up the dough...

BTW... How is the Bosh 4+ and the Magnacor setup working out? Thats one of the next things to do.

Yea, My MAF is definatly healthy... I didnt touch a thing, just a nice clean blast of electrinic parts cleaner... I know the BMW guys do that every so often, no problemo, i also know we use the same MAF, but I do understand the concept of working the other components to take advantahe of the new exhast flow... what that tells me is that the stock manifolds are NOT actually restrictive... I did think the 1.5 primaries were a bit big for a 4 liter...

Ahh, thanks for the pointer on a bad MAF, but no problems since, just BEFORE! it would chug in the cold, and get multiple cylinder misfire codes going from the desert to 12'000 feet elevation climbing up to the ski resort... but nothin SINCE the cleaning....

So i guess the plan of action is knab one of thoes magnaflow y-pipes with the Cats, and a stock manifold and call it a day...
