This happened to me. Everything/everyone pointed to headgasket. Brought it to a local radiator repair shop and he said the radiator was completely blocked causing a lot of pressure in the overflow. Replaced it, problem solved. Same symptoms as you.

Hope this helps.

Also I will give you an update on the history recently. For the last few months it has been leaking and smelling like radiator fluid. It seems to be puddling up one the ground in front of the passenger floorboard. When I have looked at it, it only looks like water so I was assuming that that is just the AC water drip. What is on the passnger side near the fire wall that would leak? Heater core lines? And if its not leaking anti-freeze that I can tell, why does it smell like it?
Also this leak would eventually run low on fluid until i would notice the engine run hot. This has happend about 5 times that it ran up into the red-line overheating. I would stop wait for it to cool and top off the resevior. From there it would be perfectly fine for about a week or so until the fluid would run low again. And recently I have kept up with toping it off and havent had any problems.

Thumbs down Yello Custard/Mustard in the OIL FILL SPOUT!!

Yellow Custard/Mustard in the oil fill cap and oil fill spout that the cap mounts to... Head Gasket it is... DAMN!! Not only that, I am at a place without a covered area or garage and also under the remnints of Hurricane Ida and solid rain for 3 more days. This has really begun to suck. What are the problems that can occur if I try this operation in the rain/intermittent rain? How long does it take with an above average/sub professional automotive mind and experience to pull down the top side and have the heads off. Waiting for delivery of the head gasket kit and in the mean time I can have the heads checked and or repaired. What am I looking for when I am looking for a "dropped sleeve"?? This sucks!
