Ok Spike...

Ive got a warranty story to tell you....

My dad buys this 70 inch JVC Rear Projection 1080 HD TV... $3000 warranty $300
a year later he buys a Playstation III (to watch BlueRay's) and the HDMI inputs dont work

The warranty company sends a guy out, they say..

"We cant Fix it.. Must be a problem with the circuit board... Here is your New 73 inch Mitsubishi...
And by the way.. we dont want the old one back.. you dispose of it."

So what do I get to do.. Rent a van and lug the Heavy Bastard over to my house... Picture is AMAZING.. Have my Xbox hooked up through the HD RCA cables instead of HDMI..

Came out smelling like a rose on that one.

While researching a fix for my TV the following were a recurring theme:

- Getting a tech out to do a home repair is difficult.

- If you do get one they seldom know what they are doing

- If they know what they are doing they can't get the part because they aren't authorized by the factory.

- Manyrepairs aren't economically feasilble.

-And finally, stay away from Panasonic televisions.

I never had a problem with discount tire. I've never even bought tires from them, but they have plugged several tires on a couple different cars for me for $0. Even had one that continued to leak, and they unmounted the tire, put in a patch, and then remounted for $0. I don't live near one now, but just for that, I would buy tires there if I did.

I think I am going to start my own extended warranty company. Write a bunch of bogus warranties, collect big bucks from suckers and refuse to do anything when the warranty item has a problem. If someone decides to push the issue and sue me I'll declare bankruptcy.

Sound like a good plan? Anyone care to join me?

I am being sarcastic, just so everyone knows. I have to agree with Spike that extended warranties are a waste of time and money. And with the rate technology is advancing by the time your new gadget breaks it will be so outdated would you really want to fix it anyway when you can replace it with newer, better version for the same cost as the warranty.

The tires on my Dodge were bought from Discount Tire because they are literally 2 minutes from my house. I got the replacement certificates with them so if they have a problem at any time in the life of the tire that isn't covered by the manufacturers warranty I can get the tire replaced for free. I'm really hoping I never have to find out how well Discount honors those certificates.

Whenever I'm asked if I want to buy an extended warranty, I always ask the salesperson if the product is so bad that it NEEDS an extended warranty. Then I hem and haw as I rethink the original purchase.

I usually go ahead and buy the product, but the look of panic on the salesperson's face as they realize that pushing the extended warranty is about to cost themthe sale is priceless.

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to provide some intelligence that Discount Tire still will not install Yokohama tires on a Land Rover Discovery II. I saw the super vague bulletin and even told the CSR what the original poster stated... that this is probably based on a single incident. There's not much information, and I think lot's of LR guys buy Yokohama tires. No luck.

At least I know I'm not crazy in thinking this. Should I consider another tire or find another shop? Or both?

Perfect place for another Tommy Boy quote: But why do they put a guarantee on the box? Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Weird. I bought my Yokohama tires from discount tire direct and I certainly told them what I was putting them on.

Yokohama Geolander AT/S are fantastic allround tires and fitted to dozens of Landrover D90's. 110's, D1's, D2's and RR's in the UK and europe. I would use Yokos anytime - fab tire.
