Default Discovery 2 4.0 v8 low on power high fuel consumption

Hi, I have recently bought 2000 d2 v8.

After driving it for some time i think it has not enough power. Its about the same as td5 if not slower. While reading rave manual i found the „stall test” and tried it. Ive got about 1900rpms which should be 2200-2400. It has LPG so I tried again with petrol and seen no change. Idle is not smooth too.
Second problem is fuel consumption. After driving normally not too much throttle I got 30l/100 (8mpg) on LPG.

All symptoms are same on petrol/lpg so i don’t think it’s an lpg problem.

I heard that maf sensor and O2 sensors get bad often. What is the best way to check them?

Any help would be appreciated

I read the title of your post and said to myself “yes, sounds right. “

Sensors can be checked real time with a scanner plugged into the OBD port.

Was LPG a factory option in some markets? If not, I gotta question the conversion system. Were you able to question the previous owner about the performance? Was it EVER better?

LPG conversions typically have less power and consume more "fuel" than gasoline. The up side is the fuel is stable and clean and at one point when conversions were popular it was cheaper to buy.

So, i checked the car with obd scanner and got 5 codes. Knock sensor on LH, misfiring, O2 sensor LH\RH, MAF. I've spoken with my mechanic, and he told me that it can all be caused by ignition. I'll check ignition system tomorrow maybe cables are bad\mixed up or a bad spark plug.

I don't think it's lpg problem. Petrol or LPG it runs identically.

Get the OBD codes cleared up, then let us know how it runs.

Right, I saw where you said that. I'm questioning whether the LPG conversion kit is any good at all. It is possible that it has compromised everything. That was the perspective of my question, and why I wondered if you had been able to dig deeper with the previous owner. "Yeah, I had better mileage before I added LPG, but I needed it so bad I lived with the negatives." That sort of thing.

I cleared the codes and it runs slightly better, but the knock sensor came back right after.
