Discovery 2 rear right brake failure
Currently own a 2002 D2 with approx 160 miles on it. Previously owned a 2000 D2 around the same miles.
I owned my 2000 D2 for 7 years and in that time I had to replace the rear right brake calliper twice.
On my current 2002 D2 I'm about 2.5 years in and I've already replaced the rear right brake calliper once and it looks like the 2nd replacement is coming up soon.
It seems like over time the calliper stops completely releasing the pads causing premature pad wear and eventually they stop releasing altogether causing the rotor, wheel and everything around there to get very hot.
I'm wondering if this is a common issue with the rear right calliper? It's now happened to me 3 times.
I remove the calliper, buy a new one, replace it with new pads and the problem goes away.

Yea, I have gotten the exact same failure. RR. caliper hangs up and wont release. Replaced factory with autozone caliper the first time. Autozone caliper hung, 2 weeks prior to the warranty running out. Replaced again. See how long this one last.
Do you also replace the rotors?
If no, I would recommend replacing the rotors as they can be warped or the groves could cause quick wearing down of the pads.
Also, are you bleeding the system? shoot from the hip would say the right rear is getting more pressure than the others.

It might be the caliper carrier and the slider pins need lubricating and the caliper is hopefully OK. Slider pins have a nasty habit of seizing unless there is plenty of silicon grease on them. If the wear on the brake pads is all on one side it's sure to be the caliper pins.
Thanks for the replies. Could be pins..could be lots of things. I guess my point was that it's happened multiple times on 2 different discos. My question was weather or not it's happened to other people. I can fix it, I'm more curious why it keeps happening......on 2 different trucks. I'll take it apart this weekend and see what I can see. It's possible the new caliper pins are of low quality. I'd take a good look at them as OF mentioned. Not much else would cause the issue unless the D2 is urinating on the RR caliper.

Anti seize on the pins.
I'm a little extreme, I flush the brake system with new fluid every year, when I do the brakes, I also flush the calipers with brake kleen and work the piston.
Only problems I have is wear and tear iirc.
