Thumbs up Discovery 300 tdi

Hi, new here, so bear with me as I am not sure of the protocol. I have a 1990 Disco heavily modifieed with a 300tdi lump in it, standard turbo with a burton intercooler. Coming back from an off road event I noticed that all of a sudden the whistle from my turbo got a little louder and the power had dropped off slightly. It still drove but with a less power when I accelerated. I have a boost guage which was still showing normal boost, but with less power.

Could anyone add some advice as to what could be the problem, it would be appreciated

thanks
Scott

Even with boost pressure reading normal you cold still have a leak in the system it will just take more effort for turbo to build pressure.
Look for the whistle with a lengh of hose pipe stuffed to your ear!
cheers pete

You have a leak somewhere between the turbo and the intercooler.

I have a really good friend in England who has a 300tdI in his Range Rover.

I will send him the link to this, and see what he says.

Hi Scott, could be a leaking turbo hose, but also check for a blockage in the exhaust system, sometimes the exhaust boxes colapse internally, perhaps it was whacked while you were off-road? check also the turbo boost line to the injection pump isn't cracked/leaking, these are prone to going brittle with age, hope i've been some help!

Hi Aaron! good to hear from ya!
Yep, if there's one thing i know about it's 200/300tdi's (that & wrecking my RRC!) the vast majority of Land Rovers in the UK have this engine fitted, it's a very robust unit, easy to get more power from too, the Bosche VE injection pump is a piece of cake to tune up, i think it's also used in some of the trucks in the U.S.?
