Default Discovery 4.0 in 2004 Range Rover

First off I know this is a strange question. I have a chance to pick up a pretty nice 2004 Range Rover for a steel because the engine is gone. I have a running 4.0 out of my 2001 D2 and figured if it would work I could have a nice RR for a good price. Do y'all know if this is even possible? I know anything I possible if you put enough time in it but I am not looking to do any fabrication. In a perfect world I could pull one engine and drop the other in.

It will sadly never work. The 04 was BMW 4.4L powered & the front diff is actually attached to the oil pan & the axle goes thru it. With that said you should be able to find a BMW 750 if I’m not mistaken with the same engine, but that would only work if you needed the block. If the entire RR BMW 4.4L is gone you’d have to get one from a wrecked 03-05 RR.

750 is a V12, that might be even harder 740 should have the 4.4 V8.

Yeah I’m not a BMW guy, but now that I think about it I’m thinking the ghetto BMW we went to pull the 4.4L block out of at the junk yard was a 740 with 750 badges. It was totally ghetto with bling wheels. The block ended up being locked up so we dove into an 05 RR that had one valve cover gone & a chain hanging out. However the block was fine. Friend is cruising around perfectly fine to this day on it!
