Discovery II No Spark
Okay, still no spark. I'm getting two different opinions. One is that the Crank Sensor controls Spark. The other is that the Crank Sensor controls Fuel. Anyone able to confirm?
Please, I don't intend to offend, and am thankful you replied. I'm a Land Rover Noob, and the Camshaft Sensor is $298.00so I am wanting to be real sure about it before I drop that kinda coin.
Thanks,
Mark

Just to clear a few things up, crank sensor = fuel delivery, cam sensor = ignition control.

Ignition control means spark and spark timing.
Sorry, I wasn't meaning to seem rude. Also, just because there is no spark, doesn't mean that the cam sensor itself is to blame. Do you have spark on any cylinders or no spark at all. You could have signal from the sensor to the pcm, but the pcm may not be activating the ignition coils. Check fuse 14 and ignition relay, both are in the pass. compartment fuse box. Also, check fuse 2 in the engine compartment fuse box. After that, it starts getting more in depth.
Thanks, I do believe we've got it! tacomatech was on the right track here.
It's been a bit since I've posted, sorry. Since tacomatesh's last post my Discovery won a game of Stump the Tech at a local shop that does a great deal of European cars and has the correct equipment to service the Disco. I also lost a head gasket! They did a fine job on the Head Gasket ( pan off, two flushes, new head bolts, new gasket kit, etc..).
Two days after I started driving Disco again the Lighter fuse blew. While replacing the fuse a relay fell to the floor. The relay that sends power to the coil pack. All of the relays in the under dash compartment were loose. I re-seated all relays and have been enjoying a predictable vehicle, again.
Thanks!

I met with a factory service rep Wednesday and after a long talk, I learned something new,the cam sensor primarily regulates the sequential fuel injection firing, it can fail and the the will still be able to run, the injector will not be in sink correctly though.
The crank sensor actually can cause the engine to stall, not start, not have or and or fuel.

Mike, you're right on. I can confirm that the Disco will run with the Cam Sensor unplugged! It doesn't run great, but goes into a "limp" mode. So, for the purposes ofmy particular issue in this thread it was as simple as unplug sensor, truck still runs, starts. Not the Cam Sensor!
Yes, I was surprised when I found out that the crank sensor does control both fuel and spark, while the cam sensor is a engine timing and injector timing sensor.
