Default DIY Rear Storage / Platform

First new thread - new to the D2 world - Bought an 02 SD model just over 2 weeks ago.

I wanted to remove the rear seats and create a platform, at first, for the dog. The side benefit with the Disco is the room and the ability to raise that platform and have some storage space.
The room inside the Disco also allows even someone 6'3" to sit up straight while sitting in the cargo area. Its great.
So I went about building a very cheap raised platform to accommodate two plastic storage bins from the rear and a hinged storage area towards the front.
I left the small rear seat in so I could always have at least 2 passengers. That small seat is so dang narrow, I thought it was a great decision while still allowing plenty of space to its side.
Everything is easily removable and the smallest piece towards the front is only there to give ME more leg room. It extends the space to a full 6" since I'll be sleeping on it.
Its not attached so I can just remove it to move the passenger seat back for non camping day to day use.

Even with the carpet, I have less than $50 invested in this. While I'm no carpenter, I think it turned out fine for what I'll be using it for.
I'll probably go back and wrap carpet around the legs in the rear just for looks and to minimize any rattling, knocking etc from the bins moving around.

I welcome your thoughts good or bad and to see some other DIY jobs for this sort of thing.
I cringe at "outlander" pricing for stuff like this so no matter how elementary mine might be, I had to do it myself

That looks good at least you have carpet on yours mine is just plywood. Can you show some pics of the front section right behind the seats, I have been struggling with that area.

Thanks..........

That small piece right behind the seat is simply one sheet with 3 legs.
I dont have any other pictures at the moment.
The aggravating part is the rear foot well varies by up to an inch from middle to outside in height so the 3 legs on that front piece are 3 different lengths

Awesome! Put that on Pinterest! I was going to take all rear seats out of mine, but might change my mind!

If you don't need your seat bolts I will buy them from you and pay for shipping. Thanks and good luck.

I'm not going quite that far - I put the bolts back where they came from as I intend on keeping the option to put the seat back.
I can remove the front two sections very easily, keeping the rear and room to put the seat back.

It’s a good idea to leave those rear seat bolts in place because they just go to the outside! I put some anti-seize on mine so they won’t get rusted into place

Wow, this is awesome! I was considering the same and removing some of the rear seating and leaving just one driver side rear passenger seat. After seeing your post, I think I’m finally gonna pull the trigger on this.

Wow, that turned out nice. Have a similar set up in my 01, but l removed both seats and it sleeps two full grown people (l'm 6'4"). However, since my wife made me purchase her a travel trailer...l've decided to do something like you...one side full sleeping arrangements. Plus, when l removed all of the rear seats...this meant only one grandson could ride along. So, l'm leaving the small seat in the new rover for the younger grandson.

My sleeping platform was hinged in two spots for extended length. However, this means both front seats have to be moved forward. And this bothered me, since it meant you couldn't easily move the vehicle if needed...especially in an emergency. My grandson and l boondock camp a lot, so you never know who you might run into...or have to run away from...quickly. l guess...gun play is always an option...lol.

Anyhow, l'm going to cut the front sections of my platform in half, before l install it in my 03, to work more like yours. Wish l could have made my platform lower like yours, too. But my container dictated the height. I can sit up and move around, but another few inches wouldn't have hurt none.

l believe the sleeping platform will still be long enough on the drivers side for my grandsons (6 and 11).

Again, great job on your platform! Really like the carpet, nice touch for sure.

 Brian.
