Default Do the AC drain nipples do anything?

So I recently had clogged ac drains, I took the passenger side nipple thing out and unclogged it and left it open to air / drip out. But the drivers side nipple broke and now it's just wide open. So do these do anything? Or can I just leave them open permanently? I've got all the water drained out, wasn't too dirty, but now the drains are wide open. I don't mind replacing the nipple thing if I can find new ones but I don't really see what their purpose is. Anyway if anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it

No, you’ll be fine. In theory they were put on the end of the tubes to keep mud and gook out from entering from the bottom up and clogging things... and maybe to keep insects from crawling up and taking residence, but in practice they do the opposite, they clog things up.

This post recommends removing them entirely: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ocation-84786/

Thanks Richard and nash I'm currently on a road trip but when I get back I'll take out the drivers side drain too and unclog both of them of anything and I'll check it whenever I'm under the truck.
