Default Do all D2's have coolers?

Doesn't seem to be a topic covered very much in the forum.

Curious if D2s have coolers? Oil/ tranny/ power steering. Not sure if they ever had steering coolers but it looks like they took out oil and tranny after 02.

From what I understand they're located in front of the radiator at the very bottom. You can see them by shining a flash light up under the center of the bumper. Mines an 03 and I don't have either which would then make sense.

Anybody have any knowledge of them, do they make a significant difference, ease of install, sizing (longer vs. fewer plates) etc???

I was thinking of installing them to lower overall temp of operation and avoid overheating as much as possible.

All discos have trans coolers and a sort of power steering cooler loop. Not really a full cooler. 03 and 04 got a larger trans cooler I think, but no oil cooler.

I actually ended up taking a second trans cooler off of an 04 and adding it as a secondary transmission cooler on my 03, but that's because I tow quite a bit. Some people like to add an oil cooler, but I don't see the need as long as you have a well maintained cooling system that runs in the correct temp range.

The is a D2 2000 parked in my driveway (not mine) with oil cooler and trans cooler. Though this model have self leveling and ACE. Doent say what model but it has 7 seats, rear a/c and HK audio. I'm surprised It has everything I wanted but not mine. Not even sure if this is a 4.0 or 4.6. Unless there were no 4.6 disco in 2000.
2003-2004 have oil coolers.

Alex,

Hmm that's strange because I can't see mine. I believe the PO swapped radiators at some point and maybe this replacement doesn't have one attached. Can you see yours from underneath or is it located somewhere else?

On a side note I already have temps hovering around 195 degrees with 180 degree thermostat. Do you think getting an oil cooler will lower temps beneath the threshold of it opening and functioning? What would be an appropriate engine temp without it being too low for everything to operate properly?

Thanks a lot~

Oil cooler is located behind the radiator. Im not sure if you can see it unless you remove the shroud or go underneath and check.

Defo fit a sandwich plate and engine oil cooler, they work. As for an autobox, they should have one fitted as standard kit.

Hey guys, I heard somewhere that you can use a stock tranny cooler as an engine oil cooler. Is this true?

If so, what other components do I need and how do I instal it?

I've got a 1000 miles to go before an oil change but want to be well prepared to install the cooler when I do.
