Do I need to replace this front axle?
Read the "Major Service" sticky at the top of this forum and decide how much of the list you can do yourself. Changing coil packs means removing and reinstalling the upper intake manifold. It's not too bad if you have some mechanical experience, but would cost a bunch to have a shop do it. If it's in the bad oil pump VIN range, run away.
Agreed, I still got to check the VIN. He does not have a history, but I'll try to get it from the shop that he takes it to. When was the engine recall?

Don't know if you noticed, but the service ticket shown on the ad states there's a possible coolant leak and multiple misfires. That could mean head gasket that has had sealer added to system to hide it.
I would check oil and coolant very carefully to see if there were signs of a leak previously.
You must have to pay a premium in Hawaii for those. It makes sense, because there are only so many there. But the KBB he listed is about $2500 higher than when I run it here. Also, that's assuming Good Condition, and he states it needs paint, which normally throws it into the Fair Condition range.

If it had a bad oil pump and was in "the VIN range" that should/would have been noticed and addressed years ago.
Please stop panicking people over outdated old issues. We have enough to worry about as it is!!
If it has no other signs of low oil pressure you will be fine.
That being said oil pumps crack on all model years. any signs of low oil pressure should be addressed no matter what the year.

There is oil on the engine block, but no large puddles where he parks it. He also said that he has never had to replace oil because its low and that he got oil changes every 3500 miles.
His story is that in March when it hit 70K, engine light came on, he took it in, the light was off when they looked at, they read codes anyway and found those issues
And your right about premiums in Hawaii, in that everything is at a premium.
As for the KBB, When I run it for a 2003 SE, I get $6918, for a 2003 S i get $3707. Whats the difference between the models? He says it s an SE, the repair invoice says its an S.
