Just a general curiosity. Seems like most other car groups are fans of the brand as a whole, not just the model they’re all gathering around. But I’m not sure if I’m able to tell with this group if there’s an appreciation and affection for Land Rover as a brand or if it’s mostly just for this specific Disco 2.

I, myself, am a pretty sold-out LR fanboy. I’d love to have a Series IIA someday, the face lifted L405 RR once they come down in price in five-ish years, and of course keep the current boys. Love what they’ve done and what they’re currently doing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, just curious.

I've been a Land Rover enthusiast ever since 2004 when I went to my first Land Rover show in Billing, England. I've always liked the Range Rover line but I've always wanted a Defender 110 Td5.
When I was stationed in England the second time my first owned Land Rover was a RHD 1999 Disco 1 Gems V8 I bought in 2005. Then in 2008 I bought my wife a RHD 2001 Disco 2 Td5. We sold them both when we returned back to the states but my wife later bought me my now 2001 Disco 2 V8 in 2016 when I graduated from college..

Discos are mostly a gateway land rover drug. It's rarely someone's "ultimate land rover".

You are not wrong. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that a D2 with fJ80 axles, linked suspension and either a nice 4.6 or LS swap is kind of the ultimate do anything rig. Don't get it twisted that's a lot of work and money and mostly not LR anymore. However, I have time and fab skills and all that is still coming in cheaper than a decently clean LHD D110. It would be super robust and more comfortable than a D110, a little roomier/modern than a D1 and still has solid axles that are coveted. Triple locked on 33s or 35s and much improved axles (full float and LC guys run 37s on stock axles with no problems and Ashcroft will only warranty up to 35s and our diffs still can be problematic).

A D90 or D110 would be nice but the price of entry is just too high they run 40,000 to close 100,000 here. Series trucks are not much better around 20,000. If I had to replace the Disco an LR3 would be the likely choice.

I'm all in with Land Rover

Got hooked a few years ago with my P38 and have gone deeper with my D2.

Thinking my next one will be a Defender 110.

And I've got new car fever for the new Defender. Yes I love it. It's only drawback is it is not being represented correctly with big wheels and low profile street tires. It needs 18" wheels and large BFG All Terrain TA's. Land Rover should take a page out of Ford's marketing book and notice how great their new Bronco looks with small wheels and big tires.

I love all LR's, but my personal favorites are 1948-2009. The newer stuff just isn't as British. I love all the little quirks and I'm extremely happy with my D1/D2's. Nothing comes close to their unique style and on/off road capabilities.

I always wanted a 94-97 D90 and I still do, but it's crazy how much a hard top 97 D90 goes for these days!

I bleed green no doubt

I primarily like my Disco 2, but I also like the Disco 1 and 90/110/Defender- basically I like anything from LR that is legit off road, so even throw the LR models and perhaps the new Defender in there too (even though I think it looks like a Honda Element). It would be cool to have an "old" defender but the market reality in the US is that will never happen!

I like the Discovery's , Range Rover, and classic defenders. I haven't been a fan of any of the new Land Rovers in a long time. They've lost their way in their design language. They could just re release the Discovery II with re engineered parts and upgrades and I would love that so much more than the new stuff they put out.

Yeah, not so sure about the "gateway" thingy. Dll's are downright sexy and look the best when built properly...and are a beast off road with CDL, TC and aggressive tires.

l've been toying with this Defender for a while now and it has LR character up the whazoo and a cool factor unparalleled...but...if...push came to shove and someone said..."one or the other"...the Defender would probably go down the road...and the white 04 would be my next build (that is...if my wife would give it back to me...lol...she says it's her backup...if anything were to happen to her 03). But, l'm committed to the Defender at the moment...so...we will see.

Now, with that being said...l do enjoy the looks of several of their models, most early stuff...but some newer models are sharp too. Funny, there's a series ll sitting a few miles away and my wife keeps telling me to go have a look. I'm like...l'm good. However, she keeps bringing it up...so who knows?...she may beat me down eventually.
