Default does your temperature fluctuate?

Just installed the ultraguage. Badass little tool. However I just wanted to poll all of you and see if your engine temps fluctuate like mine does. It seems to always move between 194 and 203 depending upon if im going up or down a hill. I'm in northwest ct so there aren't many flat roads to test it on. I guess I imagined the temp would be a little more steady. I'm gonna put a new radiatior in it in the spring because we tow a camper but wanted to see what you all thought about it first. Thanks!

I don't live all that far from you and I have an Ultragauge as well. My temps vary from about 187 to 203 when I am sitting at idle for a bit. I have switched out the old type thermostat and put in the 180 T-stat and flushed out the Dexcool, and went with green stuff. Prior to that, my temps were in the 200 to 210 range.

Ok that's good to know. I also have the 180 tstat but I use dexcool and the orig radiatior.

Yes they fluctuate depending on load etc. the main thing to look for is variations from the "norm" for your Rover.

Exactly what he said, mine runs in the 195-200 range, I run a 195*F t-stat.

That's an efficient cooling system. Before I swapped stats mine was around the 210 range.

The DI has a larger and far better cooling system than the DII, thats why the DII has a cooler t-stat while the DI came with a 192* from the factory.

But the point is you need to know where YOUR truck runs at temp wise and pay attention to YOUR out of the norm temps.

And you will get fluctuation, don't freak out about it. You are now monitoring the melting of a ball of wax inside a mechanical thermostat with a digital device, and the ECU (at least mine) does not seem to go up one degree at a time, more like 2 or 3. That is part of the computer program. The main plus is to see coolant temp in a reasonable place, and no wide swings without logical reason. Without the UG or a scanner you are at the tender mercies of the Rover gauge designer, who thinks you don't need to be concerned about a 100F swing on the gauge. With the factory gauge you can be running 235F and it can show normal.

My Ultragauge temps will go up to 215, the thermostat opens, they go back down to 185, all in the course of two minutes. The factory temp gauge never moves.
