Default doin some mods

magnaflow exhaust goes on this week. then gonna work on building a custom airbox out of aluminum to be waterproof and house a DRY cone filter and work with a mantec snorkel.

airbox and snorkel are in the works. exhaust is happening regardless. BTW its a muffler swap and leaving the resonator in place. want flow,,,not noise

I just picked up an '04 G4 about a month ago, and the PO cut the center muffler out, welded in a straight pipe, but left the resonator. Loud doesnt even describe it, It's gettin a muffler.

Off track, but did you're front G4 lamp guards require drilling into the fenders? D.A.P. sells genuine G4 front guards that I want but don't want to put holes in the body.

Sloppy: that is what I want to do. I was going to hunt around on ebay or Google for a factory airbox so i would not have to make one. Let me know what you come up with. That Mantec Snorkle had free shipping this past weekend at Rovers North. I still could not justify the $400, when I need a winch first.

This will turn heads when your get your Mantec installed. The prism pre cleaner. I have one and am now saving for the snorkle to hook it up to.

My Magnaflow CatBack muffler is installed for about 2 years now. And sounds great.

I have been looking at those DAP headlight guards that require drilling, and I have seen them other places to, and do not like the idea of putting holes in the body. You are stuck with these for life, or at least the holes.

I think if I end up with some I am going to use screw heads for looks, cut-off on the back side with 3m double-sided tape to hold them in place, like everything else that is held on on my D2

I have not really handled any to see what the weight is and if this might actually hold them in place or not.

Rover Hokie,
You have to get brave and drill the holes. The entire front grill must be removed each time you need to replace a headlight, blinker, side marker light. So double sided trim tape will not hold those on. The grill and the headlight guards become one piece and are easily removed together in less than 3 mins. Its not too bad. I figure if one day it saves my $400 headlight from being cracked from a branch or rock its worth drilling the Left & Right fenders.

yes the G4 guards require drilling the fenders. the supplied templates are spot on and the aluminum is easy to drill into. i drilled using a pilot point bit so it would not "walk" on me and cut the paint in places i did not want it to. you must remove the grill and head lamps. everything comes off in about 5 minutes. drill and mount the parts to the grill, then install the grill and bolt to the fenders. done and done!!! rear lamp guards are even easier

as for the magnaflow,,, loud was cool when i was in high school and driving a 69' el camino,,but at 30 and driving a land rover i want some growl, but nothing that is stupid and obnoxious. as for the airbox i can see when i might be able to increase the area inside. then on the small inlet mounted to the inner fender i would use foam filter as a pre-filter and then a large DRY cone filter as a main element. mantec snorkel will be on order within a few weeks.

i have yet to fully decide if it makes more sense to mod the stock airbox or make one from scratch.
