I agree with the crank sensor replacement. Also if you have the old style upper radiator hose with the bleed screw molded into the hose and not on a black plastic tee, replace the hose so it doesn't fail.

And if it looks like it's leaking, get one of these too:

alright crankshaft it is... tb heater was weaping coolant but i also broke both plastic lines awhile back pokin around haha not knowing that they were made of glass... so have it bypassed with vac line since the dealer didnt have the replacement lines in stock, and probably plan to keep it that way lol. i coudlnt wait for them to be ordered nor could i swallow thier price for plastic tubes that no doubt will break again in the future.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I'm going to install a set of fresh heads along with gaskets, so I don't have to be concerned with any warpage, valve guides, and most importantly....cleaning up the old heads.

Sorry to hijack your thread with a question of my own, but it might help you a little too. Will I have any issues reusing my old rockers, pushrods, and lifters with the new heads? I haven't seen a whole lot of posts concerning this issue, but I want to make sure it's not one of those well known facts that is not well known to me.

Funny, I was just wondering that myself since I'm now refilling coolant after my timing cover gasket, (etc) replacement. I'm saying US pints since the RAVE is giving it to us under "US units". So that's 11.5 liters (RAVE lists 12 liters for UK). I'm going with zerex (Ford) G-05 this time since DEX and cooant leaks don't mix well (it is a rover)

No problem... I can't afford new heads unfortunatly... if I had the money at this point I would be doing a complete engine swap for something alittle more reliable haha. i dont quite know what im going to do though if the threads cant be repaired, at least at this point its somewhat driveable to get to work. i ordered most of the parts, but its going to be atleast a month before i have enough to pay for the work itself. i dont mind the downtime normally, but who knows how long its going to take to get the insurance money to fix my motorcycle, i didnt have col/comp on in so i have to wait at the mercy of the bitch who ran the stop signs insurance to dish out the cash. could be weeks, and im sure shell lawyer up to not have to pay, seeing as she already had 8 points on her lisence, and now stands to not only pay for my bike, but loose her lisence entirely.

Rebuilt heads are only $450ish from a local shop that specializes in Rovers. What I'm worried about is having to shell out another $1000+ for the rest of the valvetrain, and possibly cam, because the new springs on the heads trashed all the old stuff. I know this is a big problem on some motors, but I'm not sure about these. *sigh* If only they were roller motors......

$450.00 for heads??? It's a POS artifact V8 not a Enzo Ferrerri.... If you are paying $300.00 that is still high...Shouldn't be more that $200.00 at the most with your supplied valve seals... You guys have to stop holding your ankles...

The $450 is with new springs, retainers, seals, and machine work. That should be pretty close to $200 in parts and machine work, I would think, and they are going to want their $90 an hour. I'm not sure how many hours they would claim, but I'm sure they would say 2-3 at least.

I've had bad luck supplying my own parts. Shops like to tell you that they won't warranty the work unless their parts are used, because they don't know where they came from, if they are decent quality, etc. I know that's just a way for them to make a little extra on the parts, but it's worth the extra few dollars, since it's such a cheap part. I'm all for saving money, so if someone can tell me where to get a set of good rebuilt heads for $200, please do so.
