Door lock then unlocks 1996
the clicking noise you are hearing is most likely a relay. If you have a multimeter or a test light I can tell you what the wires are at the security module that should be where the central locking is controlled from.
door trigger wire is purple/white (my tech sheet says this is the same color for the rear door/hatch as well, should mean ther are 2 of the same color wires) this wire is negative (means it rests at +12 volts and then changes to ground once the door is open) these wires are located at the security module: Factory security module located under passenger Hush panel to far right. Two 7 mm bolts to remove.
let me know if you need any more help

As I was going to take the passenger panel down. I noticed that the switch on the passenger side is broken. I took it out and then I tried locking the doors from the driver's side. All doors locked and stayed locked. So it seems that my problem is solved. The dome light still does not light up when the door is closed. When I remove the switch from the door the circuit is open, because the doors stay locked, but then the light should be on then the bad switch is put back. A closed circuit should turn the dome light on.
I wish I would have listened to your post right away, before I took the driver's side actuator out and apart. Now I might have caused another problem. Once the actuator is pryed apart, it is not so ridgid when I close it up. So when the actuatordoes its thing, it opens up. I'm affraid I must purchase a new door actuator. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep it together again? I don't know how long epoxy will last.
Thank you.

Thanks for posting the solution..
Im not sure what the actuator looks like, is it plasic??
Perhaps as well as epoxy you could make a couple spot welds.. (melting)
Or wrap a couple zip ties around it??

2 possible scenarios come to mind 1st the car has some sort of sleep or power save system integrated somewhere somehow to turn off the dome light if say the doors are left open for a period of time (not sure if rovers do but I know other manufacturers do this, like ford which I believe there system goes to sleep after about 45 minutes) and because of this it must see positive on that wire for a little while to reset this (since the switch was broken and it had ground on it for such a long time) in which case I would suggest replacing that pin switch(or fixing it or disabling it or whatever you will need to do) and trying that for about an hour or two (no clue if this is the case how long it would take to reset(probably the amount of time it takes to go into power save mode)) the second scenario is since you just bought this truck and this was an existing problem maybe the domelight switch itself has been modified to make sure if it gets switched to that position it does'nt stay on and kill the battery? I wouldn't think this is the case but its worth checking out and while you are up there you can see how this is wired and test the delay wire for power
as for the drivers actuator yes I would agree take it out over night and throw a zip tie on it, then put something like JB weld or something like that on it, then the next day when it is completely dry put it back in, leaving the zip tie on if you can.if you need to replace it I go back to my old post about aftermarket (I was looking at AB.com for actuators and the direct fits are over $100) if you are pretty handy the aftermarkets are pretty easy to put in. You just have to be careful and have a drill.
Hello,
Can anyone give me the part number for the door switch that turns the dome light on and off as the door opens and closes? I looked on the ab.com site and could not locate it.
Thank you.

My immobiliser fob locks doors and unlocks doors, as it should. However, now I push fob button, all doors lock, then a second later all doors unlock. It also has permanantly disconnected the fuel solenoid (but I bypassed that to get the engine working again). Can anyone explain why after 20 odd years the immobiliser immediately unlocks the doors again?
