Default runs then doesnt, then does

i recently purchased a 1996 land rover discovery, it has 203,000 miles on it. It starts and runs on ocassion it displays no lights on the dash, after it wont start. It will still crank over, so I took off a spark plug wire it did not produce spark will cranking over. the previous owner instaled a battery disconnect . when it wouldnt start he would disconnect the battery, reconnect it within a few minutes. it would run until shutoff. now the discovery will only start once in a blue moon. all help will be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad crank sensor.
That is what controls spark.
The battery disconnect was just resetting it so it thought it was fixed, until next time.
but now it is bad enough that it cant be fooled.
