Mine does this also "When operating my frontwindshieldwipersthey hesitate(1 1/2 seconds) then work"

But they work fine on the fastest speed setting?

Rear Wipers work fine though.

Go and buy a 8 mm 12 point 1/4" drive socket and snug the bolts on the valve covers, they will stop leaking then.
It will cost you $3.
Just snug them, NOT tighten them.

I got an estimate today from our local import specialist. Here it goes.....

1. Door Locks: Said I need a new door lock assembly to fix my problem. He said it would cost $300

2. Valve Cover Gasket: Said labor and gasket would cost $400. He said it will take him about 4 hours to complete and that it would no doubtstop the leak.

Here is the companies website that hasgiven methe estimate: http://www.ozarkimport.net/index.html

I had a good feeling after talking with these guys-they seemed like they really new their Rovers.

How do you guys feel about this? Am I crazy for letting them doing this at these prices?

Yes you are crazy. Hell man for that price I will drive to you and fix your truck AND have $400 left over.
The valve cover gaskets leaking is 100% going to happen on any Land Rover, and like I said, for $3 YOU can fix it. You do not need new gaskets, you need to tighten the bolts.
As for the door lock, for under $100 you can fix it yourself. All you need is a new door lock actuator.
www.roverlandparts.com will be glad to sell you a good used one, www.atlanticbritish.com will be glad to sell you a brand new one.
You can replace it yourself in about 2 hours if you do not know what you are doing, 30 min if you do.
Do not pay these guys to fix your truck.
Seriously, you can fix both problems on your truck for $100 and then send me the other $500 and you will still come out ahead.
Seriously, $100 and you can fix it. Stick the leftover $600 into your IRA.
Sears sells the socket, $2.89 I paid for mine.

Thanksfor the advice Spike. IguessI screwed myself on this one-it may be too late to put a hold on the work. I willbe sure to save this in "My Forums" to look back on.

I plan on buying that socket from Sears btw.

Also, the $300 was for the front left and back left door actuators. I wasn't sure if I made that clear. I noticed on rover connection they are $125 E

ummm its never too late to cancel work,,,you simply call and say NO GO or simply DO NOT SHOW.

stop looking for excuses to spend money and or not get your hands dirty. we are talking about simple and basic fixes. this is not like fixing a space based nuke launching system upside down and blindfolded.

Ihave been driving in ice, sleet, and snow for the past 3 days in my new Rover, and I have tosay I was very impressed with it's handeling. It's been a joy driving.

I also have a 97 4-Runner. It drives pretty good in those conditions but not as well as theole rover

Iagree with this advice. I turned the bolts on the my 1996 Discovery valve cover and was very surprised how loose they were. I haven't driven it, but that better stop my oil leak.

Thanks, Spike.
