Door not unlocking with key
Hello all. I purchased my 03 Disco2 back in February. The owner told me not to lock it because the key doesn't unlock the driver's door. I figured it was an easy fix but haven't completely dove into it as the LS motor swap is my first priority but but I would like to have the ability to lock it up eventually. Using the provided keys that work with the ignition, I attempt to unlock the driver's door but no luck. It will not turn left or right. The key appears to only go in about 3/4's of the way. I'm not sure if it is the original key or not and it does not have a FOB attached to it. That will be another issue to tackle. I have tried WD40 in the lock but does not help.
My fear is the ignition has been replaced and that I do not have a key for the door. Anything else to try or suggest to take apart would be highly appreciated.

even if it's not the correct key it should still go into the lock all the way. i'd guess that there is something broken off in there, or that at least one of the pins is stuck.
getting the lock mechanism out is tricky, but it can be done. a locksmith should then be able to verify that the key is correct for the lock.

A couple years ago I became trained in the workings of the door lock cylinder via the School of Hard Knocks. I agree with mollusc that the key should go fully into the lock regardless of whether or not it's keyed the same as the ignition switch.
In my case the key would go in all the way but would not turn. In my case something a locksmith called the retainer wafer was broken, preventing the cylinder from turning. I documented my experience in the thread linked below. I hope it's helpful for you.

I’ve dealt with exact same thing before and the other guy is right, you’ve got a wager out of place. If you’ve got the time you can take care of it yourself.
I took the handle off and removed the cylinder from the handle. Once you get the cylinder off you’ll be able to tell the wafer or wafers that have failed. I took all the wafers out and removed the broken ones. Stacked them back together and reassembled, reattached the cylinder to the handle and tested the key. That’s been more than five years ago and it still works just fine.
