Default Door won't unlock, not actuator

99 Disco I, driver's side front door won't unlock with remote. Replaced the actuator but didn't help. It just won't unlock all the way. Looked in there really close with a mirror and saw a small metal ring hanging loose. Now I remember reading one of the posts here, saying making sure it's not a broken ring spring before ordering the actuator. I just searched for an hour but couldn't find that post. Please help. I couldn't tell how to get to the ring/spring and how to fix it. Also, would a lot of lube help? Many thanks in advance.

I would try lubing it first.
If that does not help it is probably a broken spring.

I am pretty sure it's the spring. How hard is it to replace it? Do I need to remove the entire lock assembly from the door?
