Default DOT 4 or DOT 3 synthetic brake fluid?

Does it matter if you use DOT 4 or DOT 3 synthetic brake fluid? Which is best?

Only Dot 4 either synthetic or regular, no Dot 3, it will kill your seals.

Quoted for truth, I just replaced a 6 month old master cylinder due to DOT 3 fluid (father-in-law did the work while I was still in Iraq.) Use Castrol GTLMA (DOT 4), if you cant find it locally but it from british pacific or atlantic british.

It seems that British-built cars use a different formulation of rubber on the brake seals, and DOT 3 will rot or dissolve them. This is the reason for the requirement of DOT-4. You must use DOT-4.

Default Rip off?

So I just took my LR3 into a shop to have my brake fluid flushed… the guy said it would be about $100 but since I have a Land Rover that takes dot 4 it’ll cost me $140… what the F? I was just at Advanced auto and dot 3 and dot 4 are the same price. Should I trust this guy or is he taking advantage of me because he heard the words Land Rover?
