Easiest way is to get a single din stereo with a pop out screen. They are fairly inexpensive these days on ebay. Otherwise you need to either relocate the A/C controls further down on the bezel or move completely. Then cut and modify the bezel.
This is my single DIN Kenwood unit with pop out screen. It is also hooked up to a separate 10" overhead monitor for the kids in the back. Bluetooth, USB, DVD movies, HD radio, Garmin navigation, dual zone sound programming if needed:

Very sturdy unit even for off-roading.

You can get a double din, you can utilize steering wheel controls also. You have to do a little custom work on your dash, a little cutting and moving a few things. A handful of people have finished the job and it looks great. I have an extra dash that I'm going to be doing the same thing with, so i wont ruin my only dash, you should try that if you want one. i went to the junk yard and pulled it for 15$. Search google discovery 2 double din.

DIN is a German standards institute.
A DIN stereo is one made to the standard DIN size. As stereos got more feature-packed, that was too small - hence 1.5 and double-sized.
