Yeah, like I said, start with that. But, that is also where the oil pump (housed in the front cover) puts the pressure back into the block. That was where mine was leaking, and it got really bad. It was only leaking from one spot.
The cheapest quote I got was $900 to have a shop do it. I did it myself in 2 days, but I also replaced the timing chain, rod bearings, and rear X seal on the crank. Front main seal and water pump gasket will be needed as well. I spent $300 and 2 days in the garage. You dont have to pull the crossmember on a D1 to get the pan off, but you will have to pull the connecting rod and sway bar to have enough room.

I'm convinced that you can't appreciate L.R. engineering until you've ripped off that front cover.
