just have to drop the front to get to the centering ball. the rest are easy to get to
the little zerk on the centering ball looks something like this and will require a needle tip on your gun for application

when you get the grease and grease gun, don't feel like you are spending money on a one time deal. . . . you need to grease the beast as often as you need to change the oil.
and if it turns out that the shaft is shot due to non greasing and wear, an aftermarket can be had for much less $$ than stealership oem.

 

Replacement shafts can be had for around $300. There are many threads on this site about them.

Also, why didn't EITHER of the shops try greasing it first? Or, is the blue the new grease they tried and decided it was beyond that alone? It is possible it's worn beyond what greasing alone will help.

 

Okay, so I bought a grease gun, grease, the needle attachment, the whole nine yards, got under the car, greased all the zerks (some of which had almost no grease in them), but when it came time to drop the end of the shaft, to get to the centering ball to grease it, I couldn't get the drive shaft off. The bolts were as if super man himself tightened them or something. Any advice on getting that off so I can grease the centering ball? I mean, they don't look rusted on or anything, just super tight or something.

 

I put some penetrating oil on for a few hours earlier and then used an air driven impact wrench with one of these special sockets. The nuts came off easily.

Shouldn't he be trying to remove the nuts, aren't the bolts captive?

 

I think he means the front, where the bolts go forward, you are removing the bolts.


use penetrating oil, a torch, and an impact gun with the special prop shaft tool.

 

I think you need some Red Bull and Weetabix or maybe some spinach.

 

he may have to settle for wheaties, if he's in the states.
weetabix is as common as a diesel powered disco, here. or even a fuel efficient rover v8
