If you are going to be removing you drive shafts, make sure you chock the wheels of your Disco or Auto so the vehicle can not roll.

I found out hard way that this needs to be done and the situation could have not ended so well.

 

yes, you are correct if you remove the both at the same time there is nothing to hold the truck.
And you cant use the emergency brake because that works off the drive shaft too.
hope no one was hurt.

 

No one was hurt thank god and no harm was done other than my back for stopping the car from rolling down a hill. I only removed the front and didn't even think that you could use the E brake on the rear. I've read many postings about the removal of the shafts and didn't see anyone mention this nor does it mention it in manual.

 

Your say you removed just the front drive shaft and the truck started rolling? That should not have happen the rear shaft should have held the truck.
I meen you can pull either shaft and still drive the truck without one of them , so I dont know why your tranny did not hold in park.

I bet this was the 03 with no CDL?

 

Ah yes, Bitten once again by not having CDL. This should be reason enough to have the wife allow me to complete the upgrade to CDL.

 

Huh? Its an open center diff... If the cdl is OFF and you break 1 axle the car will roll down a hill. If you disconnect 1 prop shaft it will roll down a hill. Just set the E-Brake and you should be fine.

 

Just finished up rebuilding the front Drive Shaft/Prop Shaft. Wow, what a job!!! Getting the orginal joints out is no easy task. That hooks joint is so awkward and moves around every which way working against you. Had to resort to using a cut off wheel to get the joints out. During install, a needle bearing feel out of position and got stuck in the cap and I found this out as I could not get th cap to seat enough to get the C-clip in.

Now for the install and to prey for no vibration. Sure is a lot of work for something that isn't broke. That's preventive maintenance for you!!
