Talking Driver Side Power Window 99 Disco

The other day while lowering my driver side power window I heard a crack pop sound, the window continued to function for another day and then would not move up or down. Removing the trim cover revealed that a small white plastic gear had snapped in 2. My question is does this plastic gear belong to the motor or the actuator arm, I am happy to replace both but as far as I can determine the motor is still OK, but maybe not if that is where the offending white plastic gear is from. Thanks David, (the northern wilds of Canada)

look for LRD2&ME on the forums, he builds a metal replacement roller and has sold hundreds. Alternative teflon square is https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ndow+regulator. The snap over variety is easier to use, because you don't have to drill out the old stud. You would think that Rovers, built for boucing in Borneo, would have better regulator rollers. Not sure about "gear', you might want to post a small photo.

Or the Proline regulators are only 60 or 70 bucks from Rovers North... I just replaced the regulators... the originals lasted nearly 100,000 miles; the replacements look the same (and will probably fail the same with the white plastic roller), but what the heck - that's 100,000 miles away from today!

I am sure that your right about it being a roller and not a gear, great news that I can get a metal replacement. Now I just need to figure out how to install, I will assume that I need to pull the motor and actuator in order to install the new rollers? Forgive me I am new to this forum and am having a difficult time finding LRD2&ME so that I can order some new rollers !!

Refield, you reckon it is just as easy to replace the entire regulator, I assume that I would have to pull the origanal one anyways in order to install the new roller so you may be right about that.

EIther way, replacing just the rollers or the whole regulator, you'll have to pull the whole thing out of the door. I choose the regulator replacement just because I'm lazy and not too handy

RAVE instructions for the regulator replacement is pretty good; there is also a good write-up in these forums (look at the top of the DII forum, I think it's in the write-ups and how-to stickies...

You do have to remove the regulator and motor from the door as a unit, but it's easy when you get to that point. Only 3 torx bolts holding the motor to the regulator so it's an easy on/off if you do replace the regulators.

Watch your hands. I cut mine a bit the first time around - the sheet metal in the door can be sharp. I also used duct tape the first time to tape the window up - it left a lot of residue but Goo Gone works great. Second time I did it, I just used masking tape and it was much easier to clean the glass.

Should take an hour or two the first time around.

Here's the write-up I did a while back. It's easy - just take your time and you'll be fine. I used blue painters tape on the windows and no residue.

Does anyone know how to make this a sticky? This question seems to come up frequently, and I think the "How-to" has been vetted enough to be stickyable?

Have fun,
