Detailed Range Rover heated seat repair...should be some help.

Heated Seat Repair on Range Rover 4.0/4.6

Taken from another thread:

"disconnect the plug that goes from the bottom of the seat to the heating elements, hook up your ohm meter and measure across the 2 pins. if you have 5 to 10 ohms resistance the seat heater is working fine and you have a supply problem. If you dont get any reading you have an open circuit and your seat heater wont work.

On the seats up to 2002 (and probably later but I dont know myself) the elements are resistance wires and pretty easy to fix. pull the seat cover off and look for the burn patch, strip back wire 1/2 inch crimp on a stripped off butt connector and slide a short piece of shrink wrap over the connection. works perfectly. Dont have pictures from my landy but here are a few from when I fixed my e320 seat.

the elements are also easily replaced with modern carbon elements using the existing wiring on your rover. Its almost always just as easy to repair them though
cheers
Barri"

LR knew about the issue and issued Technical Information on it. Document attached, not too informative but will point you in the right direction in the RAVE and there is some mention of having to replace both elements (seat and back).

I followed the advice and procedure in the first link, but it was way easier on my Discovery than they make it out or than I imagined. You can just pull the lip of the seat cover out of the clips, lift it off, find the break which is apparently often where the heater wires pass through two structural wires of the seat crease, repair it and clip the seat cover back in place. It's worth it to remove the seat which is removed with two 10mm bolts and two T-45 torx bolts, plus another one for the seat belt. There's no other tools or parts required. I didn't touch any hog rings, needed no upholstering skills, and I didn't need a new heater pad.

I'm trying to repair the driver side heated seat. What is the best way to get the clip off of the lip. I'm really having a hard time getting it to budge.
Thanks Ozzie

Well I was able to get the repair done. I found it was much easier to remove the whole seat the the seat back to get to what I needed to. It was broken on the left side right were you get in and out. Everything back together and I now have heated drivers seat again.

I've taken back my front seat squab to find that my heater element does not look like the picture above. It is a grey fabric with no visible elements, glued to the foam bolster under the seat cover. I can see a burn mark on the edge of the bolster about the size of a cigarette burn but again, there are no visible elements, just fabric.

This may be because I had the heated seat element replaced by the dealer while still under extended warantee a few years ago.

After reading up a bit apparently there were two types of elements. Mine have a 2007 date stamp on them.

I also would like to take this time to replace the slightly worn pleather lower seat squab. Does anyone here know where to order the replacement squab and element?

I have not found that any of the usual "reliable sources" carry either of these items.

There are a few used ones on Ebay but, A: don't need actual leather, and B: don't need a whole seat, C: no elements available.

So where have you been able to reliably find an exact replacement pleather lower front seat squab (don't need the back piece) and a replacement element?
