Default Drivers Seat Heater

Before old man winter rolls in I'd like to fix my drivers side butt heater. It just stopped working sometime last year. I noticed that the amber light on the switch sometimes does not come on when I hit it. So I dug it up and I do hear a clicking noise similar to the passenger side one (which works) when I hit it coming from under the drivers side dash. I tried probing to make sure the switch is working and from what I can tell it is, although like I said the light does not always come on. I noticed when I hit the switch I get power from the blue wire on both (red wire supplies constant power). So far it seems it's not the switch and am thinking its something further downstream. What other items should I be looking for from those who have done this? Specifically where is the fuse under the seat for this? The one under the dash (#15) is fine.

My rear end will thank you for your help!

Did you swap switches?
The known good one with the "bad" one?
Does it work then?
No?
Relay under the seat is bad.

I tried swapping them but they are left/right specific. I'm getting the same output from the one that works and the one that is in question. So you think the relay then Spike? I have no clue how these things work. I assume the relay is under the seat.

I am going to say relay, unless the heating element is broken it will be the relay.
It is common for them to fail and if I remember right there is also one on the passenger side and you can swap them before you buy a new relay.

I am thinking the same thing is wrong with mine. I was hoping that I could just swap them before I bought a new one.

Thanks for posting this, and the console disassembly. I need to change my shift ribbon too.

I am having the same problem with my driver's side seat heater. I have checked the fuses, relay, and switches, all of which are fine. So, unfortunately, that means that there must be a short or loss of continuity in the seat. I am going to check the heater element under the seat cover for any breaks...does anyone have any experience or recommended method for doing this...?

Thanks in advance

I dug up these threads. I can't seem to find much for DIs though. I think this thread will be pretty popular as we approach winter!

On a DI the relays are two yellow tops located under the drivers seat. If you put your hand on them you can feel them click and determine which one is for the passenger or drivers seat.

I noticed my relays weren't too hot but pretty warm when I touched them. I switched out the passengers side relay (working side) with the drivers side relay. Didn't work.

I previously sat in my passengers seat and was not at all impressed with how hot (warm really) it got.

For those interested there is a good writeup on the heater element replacements @ www.discoweb.org Click on Tech, then scroll down on the left side and click on "Seat heater install". I'd give you the link but it only take you straight to the home page.

I'm scared to even see how much LR would charge for the elements...
