i guess i have a bad tappet?

anyone know if a bad tappet would throw a misfire code?
That 30 psi is when? If that is hot at 2000rpm then you have an oil pump problem.

But with 30 PSI - you'll have more noise soon. Spec for a D2 is above 10 PSI at idle, and 50 PSI at 2000 rpm warmed up. See the general data pages of the workshop manual.

sorry that was 30 psi cold idle with fresh 10w-30 mobil one, i changed back to quaker state 5-50 and it's a lot quieter (didn't re-check pressure) now it's almost a squeaky noise... not consistant worst at low engine speed going up hill... still throwing no codes.

i have a 944 which were practically born to tap and this really sounds nothing like it... in fact i don't think i've ever heard a lifter tap whose severity was load dependant...

thanks for the help guys, i'm going to buy a used motor and rebuild it, hopefully this motor will make it till april-ish so i can swap that in when it's a bit warmer

just to clarify further and i will likely upload a video so that when this is identified and solved it will be easier to reference for other people with ticking time bombs in their lrs the noise i am experiencing:

is engine speed dependent
seems to have quieted with thicker oil
is squeaky and metallic
is coming from the drivers side front of engine
is not there at idle or any engine speed with no load on engine
if you let off the gas it goes away
has a "less loud" rpm range centered around 3k

upon removing the head gasket it almost looks like there is visable blowby from the seam for block/sleeve

can anyone confirm this is what i am seeing or is this just a bad head gasket?

thats a head gasket failure, nothing to do with the liner. Also, your ticking noise cause.

Any updates roverbob? I have the same tick as you do so curious to see if you were able to fix it. Was the ticking any louder under the car?
