Default Driving Home New D2 - Precautions?

I will be picking up my new 04 D2 in a couple of weeks. I will drive it home which will be about 4-5 hour drive. I picked up a UltraGuage to monitor the the coolant temperature. Is there any other precautions I should do to get my new purchase back home safely?

The main thing on a drive home beside the ultragauge would be the front driveshaft, although I think by 04 all of them had fully greasable shafts. When we bought our first D2 8 years ago I had to drive it home for 4 miles with the driveshaft making noise - was scared the whole way home. With an 04, if your shaft was not in good shape you could remove it, put the CDL in the locked position and drive it home without one. But like I said I think they are all greasable and it should be good to go.

If the PO has been driving it, personally I would take the risk and drive it home. I agree that you should have tools, and hopefully you have cell coverage and a data plan in case you need to troubleshoot on your way home.

Its well taken care of. And driven lately and lightly. What tools? A code scanner?

If you can obtain records that show the PO maintained the vehicle reasonably then you should be okay. If you cannot, you might consider stopping and having the oil changed before you get on the road. How many miles on your purchase?
