I use an Autel MaxiDiag MD702 which with the latest operating software gives a far better range than earlier including more live data. But, it can only diagnose, read and clear codes but cannot activate the ABS, create simulations or reprogram any ECU's. The bonus is it covers more vehicles without additional licence costs. For D2's the best is Nanocom or Hawkeye which can reprogram and activate various components but it is limited to LR's and requires a new licence for each different vehicle in their range. For instance, you can brake bleed properly through the ABS with the latter two tools whereas the Autel cannot. Similarly ECU reprogramming for fuelling, timing etc.

I agree they are the best, unfortunately the cost of ownership is too high for me.

I'm just glad the Autel came out, since before that even the ABS Amigo was over $200, and ALL it did was clear and check the ABS codes.

You're right, the Nanocom and Hawkeye prices are a bit 'chunky' considering they are so vehicle type restricted. There are some really good top of the range all car kits circa $2,000-3,000 but I certainly wouldn't spend out on those unless I was a professional mechanic.

at $499 the hawkeye is not to completely crazy, for what it does. it is far more than a $100.00 OBII scanned.
it will operate every devise in your truck from the OBII port.
want to bleed your brakes run the cable back push the button you have fluid.
if you window doesnt work plug the hawkeye push the up and down button does it work,
your problem is not the power, fuse or the motor, switch channels now check the button up/ no down, thats your problem.
and you have never picked up a tool.
and it is like that for everything sunroofs, fuel pump, door locks, lights, wipers, horn, directional, not to mention reading and clearing engine codes as well as ABS and checking and operation the ACE system and air spring are the same way.

now if you in the business of working on Rover then a Nanocon would be the the way

Is the hawkeye locked to just one vehicle or can you use it on multiples?

The license is for as many vehicles of the particular model you choose. I have a DII so mine will work on any DII. You can buy additional licenses.
