Dumb question about D2 shifter
On every car I've owned previously, I can shift from N to D just by pulling back on the lever, and the lever will stop at D. My 03 requires me to hold the button for every move. Is this normal?
I'm used to being able to back out of a parking spot, blindly yank the shifter back until it stops, and go forward on my way. The Discovery has me hunting around for an extra second or two.
The reason I'm asking is because my Mode button is jammed solid, so I intend to take it apart soon. While I'm in there, I don't want to go chasing after a different problem if it doesn't actually exist.

Main gearbox selector lever
A spring loaded catch restricts movement of
the lever, thereby preventing inadvertent gear
selection. Press and hold the trigger mounted
in the handle of the selector lever (arrowed in
illustration) to release the catch whilst moving
the lever to the required position.
NOTE: Gear selection between ‘D’ and ‘3’ in
high and low range may be made without
operating the trigger.

Hah. Even more so seeing the original owners manual is sitting on my desk, having read it a few days ago. I probably read the the first sentence of that section and skipped the rest, because obviously any fool would already know all of that.
I'll open it up today and see if a dremel can make it more to my liking.
