Default Engine

Hi All,
I'm in the medical field by profession I know the the human body quite well and how it works.
But I'm totally clueless mechanically. I have a 300Tdi D1.
It may sound stupid but I would just like to ask...
Can you guys tell me the difference (advantages/disadvantages) between the diesel engine and gas engines? (aside from the obvious)

Given the choice what of engine to put in your disco would you rather have:
a: 200tdi
b: 300tdi
c: gas engine
d: toyota engine

Cheers.

although I don't know the difference between the 200TDI and 300TDI (I think it's size?) the differences between the gas engine and the TDI are too many to list. To be honest, I think I'd really do anything for a TDI. They are literally the perfect power plant for these trucks. The TDIs have no computers to fail, require a lot less maintenance, and they never die. They can literally be run on a single wire and a battery if need be. You can completely submerge it in water with no problem. They also get double the gas mileage of the gas engines
The guys at East Coast Rovers do a lot of NAS to TDI conversions and have written up a lot on them, check out their website for some more info.

300 TDI, no question. Diesels are just better than gas. They get better mileage and will last a lot longer. There's a reason that heavy trucks use diesel and not gas.

Those are good points. Thanks.
I feel more confident now with my D1.
A colleague of mine converted his V8 into an LPG powered D1.
So far so good.
Cheers.

A diesel RRC would be awesome. By the way I'm in Sports Medicine. Nice to see a full spectrum of professionals.

thanks for the complement. Yea i'm a college student and gas is a killer. i had to sell my 2000 SE7 disco for gas. My freind sold me his 1.8 turbo jetta for $2,000 and gets 28mpg. I just can't stop dreaming rover, haha. I think its a problem. Why drive a stupid jetta, when i could be driving a beast that takes me anywhere, and gets good gas milege?

so yea, any ideas or suggestions about 200 or 300 tdi?
