Engine coolant?

RE: Engine coolant?
Smelling coolant from where?--- outside of the vehicle or inside?
If inside, feel the carpeting on the passenger floor board near the center console. If it is wet, you are looking at replacing the heater core. If outside --- look on the drivers side engine valve cover for signs of coolant leakage (green colored deposits on earlier models ---orange on later). This tells you the throttle body heater plate gasketis going, and this MUST be corrected right away. Then get under the vehicle with a flashlight and look behind the exhaust manifolds on each side for evidence of head gasket seepage. Also look around the front timing case cover for evidence, as they tend to develop a leak there when the gasket starts to let go. And last ---while you are under the vehicle, look at the UNDERSIDE of the water pump snout (where the pulley and fan bolt up) for evidence of coolantdeposits coming from the"weep hole" on the aluminum casting.
These vehicles have little tolerance for overheating, so before the summer weather gets here you had better isolate the source of the smell. To do nothing, and just hope ---- is like rolling dice on a Land Rover.

RE: Engine coolant?
RE: smelling antifreeze
I agree, some thing you don't put off - oil, brakes and coolant.
I'd stick my nose on the pass side carpet & smell all over.
Feel for dampness in your carpet(up high, too)
If your heater core is leaking, it could get real bad in a hurry and you could be an hour from help.

RE: Engine coolant?
Not the heater core, checked that as soon as I found out it would leak inside the truck. Can someone suggest a head gasket kit, I see that www.roverparts.com , www.roverconnection.com and www.eurotekapg.comhas them. Should I by an aftermarket or LR kit?
