Default engine coolant leakage

hello:

I have had my 99 disco SE for 2 and 1/2 months now and i have had to fill top up the coolant 3 times allready to the combined amount of a full container of coolant..I dont know where it is going I had my mechanic do an oil change yesterday and he saw no coolant in the oil (as in dis-coloration) and there are no spots on the driveway either. The engine temp.gauge is where its supposed to be and the truck is running fine ! So where is the coolant going ? allso how many litres of oil should i put in for an oil change My (2000)manual says 6 but my mechanic says he bought six and put 5 in and the dipstick registers full? Is my dipstick a non stock /incorrect one for the vehicle?

its probably the intake manifold gasket, sometimes the engine sleeves (block) leak but if 2 months more then likely intake manifold and the reason its not on the driveway is that it evaporates behind the engine block. 5 quarts cold oil change normal, hot 6

Thanks Rinmud. The oil scenerio makes sence ..The milion dollar question now is ,if yer right and the intake manifold is the problem/explanation for the dissipearing coolant ,then (a) how serious is this problem ,as in how soon should i get it taken care of and (b) how much should i expect my mechanic to charge me for the job.LIke i said the truck is running fine ,but i have a 12,000lm /1 year warranty on the thing from the used car lot that i bought it from .I went to them when my guy told me that he suspected a coolant leak..the used dealler said it could be a head gasket.and would be covered ..So i have another 9 months or 7.000 km of warenty left do i wait or go asap.

Don't guess, take your truck down and have someone pressure test the coolant system to see where your leak is coming from.
